Trump may not support civil asset forfeiture so much as want to impress cops

The offer from President Trump to "destroy" the career of an unnamed state senator in Texas was prompted by a county sheriff's opposition to a bill of theirs that would prohibit civil asset forfeiture—which, as our stack shows, is a pretty normal position for a law enforcement official to take.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure that Trump was "voicing support" for civil asset forfeiture, as many have written, so much as trying to be a big boy and impress the important law men. Just a feeling.
