And now a brief chat with a recent Sustaining Member, Jonathan G.!
When did you start reading TMN? This question has led me to question my life. Not my "life choices," but time and memory and being the unreliable narrator of my own mind. Was it twenty years ago? Fifteen? The short answer is: I don't know. It's like asking, "when was the first time you touched an avocado?" I'm sure there was a first time, and I love avocados, but I couldn't definitively describe the first avocado I ever touched. TMN has been a part of my life for so long that it has ceased to have a beginning. It is a presence. A fact of life. I am bald and I read The Morning News: these two things have been true since my late twenties.
Wow, thank you. Now, you wrote for TMN at one point... You ask these questions and as I am answering, Facebook Memory alerts me that eight years ago TMN published my article "Smog of War." That article featured an Afghan student, Sabera, who had recently left Afghanistan to start college in Kentucky. I am happy to report that she completed her BA in Computer Science and is now thriving in Silicon Valley. She said then that it is best to fight for human rights through education. "Rights" and "education" are abstract words and we can quibble about specifics, but that still seems right to me.
BOATS OF THANKS to Jonathan and all of our wonderful supporters. If you haven't already, find out why we need your support and consider becoming a Sustaining Member or making a one-time donation today. ⛵ ⛵ ⛵
