And now a brief chat with a recent Sustaining Member, Sabrina C.
Hi, Sabrina! How long have you been reading TMN? I've been reading since the late '90s or early 2000s. I particularly appreciated the Biblioracle. He helped me find several books I loved.
What do you get out of it these days?
I love any and all articles related to autism. My 18-year-old son has fairly limiting autism. It's not a terrible diagnosis, but it makes for strange stories sometimes. Today, I was talking with a government employee, trying to explain why my kid can't sign a check. I had to explain I'd received a mother's day card with "your name" and a birthday card with "john" instead of Gabriel. Family members want to talk on the phone, he talks about his fascinations with cars, and then just hangs up. Life with him is so odd, so unpredictable, so wonderful. He'll live with us until we die, and then who knows? Maybe his trans brother will take him in, maybe his cousin, or maybe not. I wouldn't give him up in a second, though, even if it means I won't have grandchildren or normal vacations—or even normal trips to the store. He's affectionate, loving with his entire self. He's amazing. So, yeah. I'd like more autism stories, but about the good side no one mentions, the sweet side.
Wow, thank you for sharing all of that. We'll keep an eye out for those stories. I'll continue to look forward to my email from TMN six days a week. You guys are awesome.
Many thanks all our supporters. We're able to do what we do because of everyone who's become a Sustaining Member or made a one-time donation. Thanks again. 💜
