Five looks at the week in news out of Africa.
The news in the United States is ugly all around. For something different, here's some interesting stuff out of Africa, also known as the continent of 55 states (approximately) that Americans, including former presidents, love to lump together without a second thought.
2. A dead cow has become a loaded symbol in Togo.
4. The continent's largest contemporary art museum is about to open in some former Cape Town grain silos. It will be the tallest tower built in sub-Saharan Africa in nearly half a century.
But there's controversy over the museum's namesake, who's simply loaning out his collection, plus the "overarching amount of white male voices" involved.
One is reminded of Sartre’s words about how the white man has enjoyed the privilege of seeing without being seen for the past 3,000 years.
