Three things I read or listened to this morning that are obliquely about Charlottesville.
1. "The LA Rag Trade," Christina Moon, Vestoj
In the Los Angeles Jobber Market, the divisions of labour in skill and the networks of trust created among Korean family manufacturers have both innovated designs but also cut down on production time, subverting buying structures of traditional department stores that would not originally buy from them.
2. "Virginia Is a Multicultural Success Story," Tyler Cowen, BloombergView
When I first moved to Northern Virginia in 1980, it was common to see Confederate flags and to hear “good ol’ boys” talk with racist overtones. Today the region is a multicultural success, has some of the best schools in the country, and is renowned for its globe-spanning ethnic food.
3. "This Thing of Darkness," Clay Jenkinson, The Thomas Jefferson Hour
The Thomas Jefferson historian and reenactor speaks at length about Jefferson's legacy, which now must be understood first through slavery.
