Listening

Doves, Lost Souls

The most obvious reference point for this album, which has, in the past week, put Morning News staffers in their rightful place (and asking themselves why they hadn’t listened to this masterpiece before and thanking our friend Victor for making us do so), is a Britain in the early nineties that enjoyed the dance-pop bravura of the Stone Roses and (later) the white-noise-psychedelic strains of Ride and My Bloody Valentine. Take all that and add a huge hit of what advances in ‘electronic’ music have been seen over the last ten years and you have, well, absolutely no idea how good this is. And that in no way affords this music the credit it deserves: listen to it, you will not be disappointed.
