I’m from Austin. And every year thousands of record execs and related debris descend upon the fair city in that grand tradition that is known as
South by Southwest. Well, SXSW 2001 just wrapped up: oh yes, that special week when you can’t get a table at your favorite restaurant (you know
the one with the good fries), when you can’t see any of the bands you see every other week anyway play an abbreviated set at a club they wouldn’t normally
ever play (or one that seems to have appeared out of thin air just for the week), when you get to see such musical luminaries as David Byrne, Steven Malkmus, and The Black Crowes (none of whom have any business being at a musical event that celebrates and helps
unsigned bands
what jerks: I’d also like to add that I think their music is crap
so there).
But it’s over now, and I’m sure the city’s far worse for it. And probably in a complete state of ruin.
I wonder if
Crispin (Hellion) Glover has ever played the festival? Now
that might be a strong step in the hope of recovery
