When the Legends Die

One of the most endearing things about old-fashioned maps is how wrong they can be. Sometimes maps are so divorced from reality that we wouldn’t know what they were without the labels and legends.

And without any of the usual metadata, could you figure out what a map represents? Some of you will have tried this before—and now we’re bringing it back. Here are three maps, stripped of their legends, and it’s up to you to determine what they mean. The answers are linked below each map.
